Lead Pastor Steve Tims

I have been the Lead Pastor at Sharon since August 2008.  I have pastored Southern Baptist churches for the past twenty-five years but this is the first time I have lived in Kansas, having moved here from Midland, Texas.  I may not be a native Kansan, but I am married to one.  My wife Alana was born in Hutchinson and she is thrilled to be back in what she calls “The Promised Land.”  Alana and I have been married for thirty wonderful years.  I have two married children; Rachel, who lives in Broomfield, Colorado is a Speech Language Pathologist and Jake, who lives is in Pasadena, California is a mechanical engineer working with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  I’m a very proud dad.  I graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1986 with a BA in Religion/Psychology.  I went on to receive a Master’s of Divinity degree in 1991 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas and a Doctor of Ministry degree in 2000 from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City.  I enjoy riding my motorcycle and my bicycle, camping with the family, reading a good book or watching a movie in my “man cave.”  I love sports and being a transplanted Texan my favorite teams are the Texas Longhorns (sorry, Sooner fans) and the Dallas Cowboys.  My idea of a perfect day would be to wake up late, eat some good Mexican food with the family and then be in the stadium to watch my beloved Cowboys win the Super Bowl.  Oh well, a man can dream. I love my church family and my community and my greatest desire is to equip, enable, and lead this group of believers to serve God, each other, and our community in Christ’s name.

Associate/Youth/Media Pastor

TJ Blount

I love my job/calling.  I have been working with youth since 2001 and still love it.  I was born and raised in Oklahoma and moved to the Wichita area in 2008.  I have two kids, a son Daxton, eight years old, and a daughter Zoe, six years old.  In my spare time I love watching Marvel movies and am a super fan of Captain America.  I love learning about the universe and this amazing world our Creator made for us.  Here at Sharon I have three main goals. First, is to teach and train youth to love God with all their HEART, SOUL, and MIND; each of which are very important.  My second goal is to raise youth that are active members of the body of Christ.  Lastly, is to have fun doing all this.  We all need to learn that following Christ can be fun.  From trips, movies, games, and simply hanging out; we accomplish this!

Worship Ministry Coordinator

Dana Spurgeon

“How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!” (Psalm 147:1)

Worship and praise is our response to God for Who He is and what He has done for us.  What a joy to be part of that here at Sharon Baptist Church. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve in the area of music ministry.  I became a Christian at the age of eight. When I was 11, my elementary music teacher asked me to accompany her solo for the morning worship service. Discovering that I could play piano for the Lord and His church was a life-changing experience, and I’ve been involved in church music ever since!  God graciously allowed me to pursue a career in music education.  I have a Bachelor of Music Education degree, Master of Music Education degree and a PhD in Choral Music. Over a span of about 25 years, I have taught at the middle school, high school and college levels, and given private lessons in piano and voice.  God also graciously gave me my husband, Allen, and we’ve been members of Sharon for almost 20 years.  I’ve played the organ and piano here almost that many years, then joined the staff in March, 2015.  For me, there’s no better way to serve God and His people. It IS good when the people of God sing His praise.

Children's Ministry Coordinator

Becky Stanfield

Sharon Baptist Church has been the church home for my husband and I since 2008.  We love the people of this church and raising our children here.  My family enjoys time together bike riding, playing games, reading, asking questions, and finding new things to do.  After the birth of our third daughter in 2016, I resigned from my position as a middle school science teacher in order to spend more time with our little ones and substitute teach.  A few months later, I accepted the opportunity to serve as the Interim Children’s Ministry Coordinator.  During my time in this position, I hope to bring our church closer to the families in the community and provide a safe, fun, learning environment for the children that are a part of SBC!
